We really like singing and dancing a lot, but we sound and look better with guidance from Scott!

Saturday July 24

"We really like singing and dancing a lot, but we sound and look better with guidance from Scott!"

It was a dreary Saturday morning as the Company sleepwalked into the hallway. A quick munch of Panera's delicious Cinnamon Crunch Bagels, and it was off to the morning meeting, with a special reminder for everyone to remain extra focused at the evening rehearsals. Acknowledgements were made from Mrs. J to Allison Heinzelmann, Elle Thomas, Emily Bird, and Sofie Garcia, followed by a triumphant round of "We Are Congratulating You" for the birthday girl, Lindsay Chatham. Then Murray Campbell, our Cat in the Hat, read the Cat in the Hat for everybody.

After quickly reviewing details for the party tonight at Ava Bush's house, the Company had another Seussin' morning workout. Brian Kachelmeyer and John Christianson opened with an exhilarating core workout, followed by a reprise of the Sun Salutations with Allie Babich and Anna Maurer. For the grand finale, Mike Fox led the Company for a brisk jog around the school.

During a water break, Scott Michaels, our genius director/choreographer, entered the room to a standing ovation. As he and the teachers chatted, the Company listened to a preview of Rachel Cole and Matt Hohl's original musical number called Assassins, accompanied by Rachel Mooers. After an attempt to recreate "Tardy Smackdown," Scott rejoined the cast to talk about how camp would be run and various notes on costumes, props, and sets. He instructed everyone to figure out costumes by looking through Seuss books.

The Whos worked on "Here on Who" while Scott blocked the first two numbers "Oh the Thinks You Can Think" and "Horton Hears a Who." After a lunch break, Scott worked with the Whos on "Here on Who," and the jungle creatures got a chance to work on vocals. Mrs. B had a chance to work with the boys and girls on "Biggest Blame Fool." The day concluded with Scott teaching the Wickershams and Bird Girls some choreography for "Biggest Blame Fool." During down time, the Company took part in bonding games and watched Scott work his magic and create the world of Seuss.

Another day of songs, sweat, and Seuss was over. The Company headed home, ready to get down to business at Ava's house tonight. One last reminder for everyone to start planning your costume(s) and to be at school tomorrow at 11 o' clock Lombardi time!

Shout-outs:

Emily Bird wants to thank Kate Ziebart and Rachel Cole for staying sexy, strong, and confident during the jog this morning.
