Around 7:15 this morning the Broadway Company was greeted with a sweet smelling breakfast of French toast. After the morning eats, camp officially began with the morning circle. All 50+ students formed one big circle and shared a morning talk. This morning we heard from our Life Captains, Vocal Captains, and Dance Captains. Each shared an important snippet of info ranging from: how to get the most out of camp, advice on supporting each other , and getting down to the nitty- gritty of taking on the challenges of our musical, Footloose. This was followed by Big/Little Sibling introductions.
We weren’t sure if the rain would hold tight so we could take the annual Hartland Fire-truck picture….but God held the floodgates and we were grateful. The kids looked great in their lime green t-shirts, and their interaction with one another confirmed the supportive and positive attitudes each student possesses. The rest of the morning included: head shots, a physical warm-up led by our dance captains, a vocal rehearsal, and an acting icebreaker game.
After another fantastic meal put on by our Broadway parents, students mingled and were ready in the “circle” for afternoon rehearsal. Our choreographer, Scott Michaels, was greeted with a standing ovation. He held each student’s attention as he laid out the show and the game plan for the rest of the week. Scott taught the company a line dance that will be used in the second act. We then broke into separate dance and vocal rehearsals. Rehearsal ended early today with a big congrats on working hard and a reminder to get some rest and students to PLEASE take their clothes home to be cleaned!
